Why Argentina?

Certainly a valid question.  And many people have asked me that in the last six months.  Why Argentina?  I say because Spain is too mainstream.

…Nah, just kidding; not those words anyway, but that is part of my reasoning:  Why I chose to study abroad in Argentina is because I know that I want to travel—a lot—in my lifetime.  So when I was given the opportunity to study abroad, I knew I wanted to do it!  And with the option of improving my Spanish while I’m at it?  I’m there!  But why not study in Spain?  (This is the mainstream part.)  I thought to myself, if I travel later on in life, I’m going to go to Ireland, England, or Spain—those will be my first trips that I want to take.  So if I’m already planning on visiting Spain later and paying the entire trip with my own money, then why not go somewhere totally different with my scholarship money?

And even though I’ve only been in the country for a day and a half, I’m so glad I made the decision to come here.  What’s more, I’m glad I had enough gumption to climb over my doubts of leaving home.  (I would have written ‘jump over my doubts’ but that sounds too easy.  I’ll write of my struggles of leaving home in a later post.)

I am the first student from my college to study in Argentina and I couldn’t be more excited to tell everyone back home about my adventures.

Let the adventure begin!

Abrazos,
Jessica

    1. Alright, Amy, why did you even write this under 'anonymous?' Did you really think I wouldn't know a jerk when I see one's writing? ;-)

  3. Jess,
Loved reading about your adventures, and I'm so proud of you for getting through the tough departure. I think you will be so glad that you did. Sounds like you got a great roommate and host family ~ what's really weird is that come December, it will be hard to say goodbye to them, too! Keep the journaling coming ~ love sharing the journey through your words!
